NO ENGINE ROOM IN MAY! The venue is booked all month with weddings. Mozel Tov! So, our next Engine Room will be in June with Alice Spencer and the Rubber Band. If you’ve been around the local jazz scene long enough, you’ll no doubt have heard Alice Spencer sing. She’s a powerhouse, and we’re all excited to have her perform at the Engine Room. As usual, she is backed up by some of the best jazz musicians in Austin. Help spread the word! It’s going to be a great party!

I don’t have a photo of this band, but given the members I’m sure you can cut and paste the people together in your brain image. October will be our last Engine Room of 2011!! We’re extremely excited to bring Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies back to make you laugh and dance throughout the night. A regular in the Austin jazz scene, you can find them playing every Monday at Quality Seafood at Airport Blvd and 2222. Great band, great musicians and a great time. Come out and help us close out the year with a bang!

We had a fantastic showing last month, and I hope we can keep it up for Austin’s best jazz bands! This month, we’re going to try out a new band. That said, new band with many of your favorite musicians! Check out THE SWINGSTERS – Ben Saffer, David Jellema, Joe Cordi, JD Pendley, Thomas Durnin and Dave Bedrich!

Do I know it’s ACL weekend? Of course I do! You’re going out to listen to great live music, and Engine Room is back to give you the same. So, if you need a break on Saturday to listen to hot jazz or you don’t have ACL tickets, make sure you come out to Engine Room! It’s going to be a great night, and I hope to see you there!

Thanks to everyone who came out to last month’s Engine Room.  I thought we had a great turnout and great energy!  This month we’re excited to bring back GIANT CITY SEXTET to Engine Room!  GC6 is one of the premiere trad jazz bands in town featuring Jon Doyle (clarinet), Oliver Steck (trumpet), JD Pendley (guitar), Ryan Gould (bass), Joe Cordi (keys), and Paul Schlichting (drums).  Having played for many dance events, I thought it would be natural to bring them to Engine Room a week before the International Lindy Hop Championships in DC.  No worries if you aren’t a dancer.  These guys can really bring the house down.  It’s going to be a great night, and I hope to see you there!

The Engine Room is honored to have the East Side Dandies playing for us this month. In just a few short days you can listen and dance to this talented Austin Jazz Band.

The East Side Dandies A modern band playing your favorite hits of the 1920s and 1930s. Normally found playing every Thursday evening at East Side Showroom (Right in the heart of downtown Austin, Texas on East 6th Street. Live music from the band every Thursday from 10PM -1AM), they have branched out and begun playing at several other locations. Known for their danceable jazz music, the East Side Dandies are a favorite to the dancers and jazz enthusists of Austin, Texas.
